NECC was awarded the reconstruction of a 100m section of road and fill batter built on degrading ground conditions in 2021.  The works comprised of:

• Site set out, services locating & traffic control in a National Park with high tourist traffic
• Clearing, grubbing, tree removal and tree fern relocation
• Bench out existing unsuitable fill batter and reconstruct with specified fill and geofabric.
• Reconstruct of road pavement with a final layer of asphalt
• Reconstruction of table trains
• Strick adherence to OHS, Environmental and Methodology Management Plans

NECC completed the Great Valley Trail project in December 2021.  Featuring a 16km sealed bike track and 4 bridges between Bright and Harrietville, the project comprised of:

• Site Set out, services locating and service relocations
• Mulching, and earth works to construct a 16km trail alongside the Ovens River
• Construction of stormwater drainage and swamp area cross overs
• Construction of 3m wide, 16km long pavement using locally sourced material
• Install 16km of Eco Asphalt using recycled glass and rubber
• Set out and construction of steel and concrete bridges for water way crossings
• Installation of street signs and planting of ornamental trees
• Engagement with all stakeholders including Local Government, Residents, Water Catchment Authority, Department of Transport, Cultural & Heritage Bodies & DELWP

The team at NECC have installed over 6.5km of HDPE Channel Lining for channel bed widths of up to 13m from 2013 to current. This work includes desilting and reforming the channel and construction of concrete sills to seal the HDPE lining into clay sections of the channel before rolling out the liner.

We have also carried out over 1.3km of Clay Channel Lining. This work includes compaction and placement of 1m thick Clay lining, including installation of rock armour. These works also include fencing and other associated works.

NECC have replaced over 140 Regulator structures along Goulburn Murray Water channels between 2013 and 2018. completing up to 35 regulators each season of all different types from adaptions to existing structures to large multi bay regulators with road crossings.

Works include construction of in-situ concrete headwalls and pits. Compaction of select clay around concrete structure, installation of geofabric & beaching, installation of the regulator frame and regulator itself ready for commissioning by Goulbourn Murray water.

All in-channel works are to be completed within a 2 month period over the Winter Shutdown period by 1st August, including inclement weather, to allow Goulburn Murray Water to turn water back on for farmers after the Winter Shutdown.

North East Civil Construction have installed a total of approximately 150 Electro Magnetic Flow meters to suit various sized 50mm to 700mm diameter pipe in the Murrumbidgee area in 2012-2013.

These meters were installed to improve the measurement of water extracted from the Murrumbidgee River. This project aims to generate water savings, improve the health of wetlands and increase farmer’s productivity by implementing new methods of water measurement, reducing time to predict and monitor flows.

These flow meters were installed using a range of different installation methods. Connections were made using gibaults, flanges, bends, electro-fusion welding and butt-welding, with pipes being installed underground or above ground.

NECC currently have a 3 year contract with Goulburn Murray Water for the installation of irrigation meters throughout the Northern Victorian area.

This project incorporates the replacement of existing irrigation outlets (predominantly dethridge wheels) with modernised meter solutions.

Myrtleford Better Places including the Roundabout construction at Standish Street

NECC have completed stages 1 and 2 of the Myrtleford Better Places project. With stage one being the roundabout at Standish Street where we demolished the existing kerb and traffic islands to create a roundabout which makes for a safer intersection and slows traffic through town.

Stage two comprised of 2 separate portions Portion A Myrtle St and Portion B Jubilee Park.

 Portion A Myrtle St comprised of:

•  Environmental management including dust control and protection of existing trees
•  Demolition of existing surfaces, including landscaping, kerb & channel, road and footpath pavements

•  New road and footpath pavements, including granular, bitumen seal, plain concrete and exposed aggregate concrete.

Portion B Jubilee Park comprised of:

•  New road and footpath pavements, including granular, plain concrete and ex-posed aggregate concrete.
•  Construction of new BBQ shelter, Viewing Deck, Bus shelters and township signs
•  Refurbishment of existing male and female toilet blocks, internally and externally, including new timber entrance screening
•  Stone and concrete seating walls
•  Installation of site furniture
•  Landscape edging, grassing and mulching
•  Garden beds and planting
•  Irrigation
•  Low voltage feature lighting

These works were completed and managed by our highly skilled and knowledgeable staff with the assistance of our selected sub-contractors for specific tasks.

PNECC were the principal contractor to the Alpine Shire for the Porepunkah Better Places project. This project was for the realignment of the road way parking bays and street scape works including exposed aggregate footpaths, BBQ area, seating and viewing platform and associated works.

 AWARD OF EXCELLENCE – ALPINE BETTER PLACES, POREPUNKAH 

MDG Landscape Architects  Alpine Shire Council

 Alpine Better Places is an exemplary open space project that has had a transformative and immediate impact on the identity, function and broader touristic appeal of the small alpine town of Porepunkah. The Jury commends MDG Landscape Architects for their sensitive and nuanced approach to the task at hand; and was impressed by the team’s ability to unite an initially polarised community through clever, no nonsense, and enduring design.

Robust, connected and strategically sited interventions invite engagement with the streetscape, return underutilised areas of the town to parkland, and provide opportunities for pause and congregation. An understated, simple palette of furniture and materials delivers a sense of cohesion and narrative to the region, drawing on the picturesque qualities of its natural alpine setting. Elements are inviting without being fussy and offer scope for flexible future deployment at other towns in the Alpine Shire.

This is clever, joyful, modest design that responds to issues of environment, social connection and active lifestyles through integrated design. The project is a promising start to proposed future implementation at a regional scale.
